OUR SPECIALTY

Our team includes Speech Language Pathologists who have worked in a variety of medical, clinical, and school settings. Together they have experience with both the pediatric and adult populations, as well as advanced specializations in dyslexia, infant feeding/lactation consultation, and AAC evaluations. Areas of Specialty Details: Articulation Development (Speech Sounds): Aiding in the correct production of speech sounds. Apraxia of Speech: Helping individuals overcome difficulties in planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech. Receptive Language: Strengthening the understanding and processing of spoken language.(following directions, understanding concepts like size/color/shape, understanding grammar, ect.) Expressive Language: Enhancing the ability to express thoughts, ideas, and feelings (retelling a story, answering questions, writing a short story, using words to describe actions and events.) Reading Comprehension: Aiding in the ability to understand and interpret written text. Phonological Awareness: Developing the skills to recognize and manipulate sounds in spoken language. Infant Feeding/Lactation Consultation: Assessment to address any concerns related to how an infant is feeding. Dyslexia Evaluation/Intervention: We offer comprehensive evaluations to assess for Dyslexia. We offer one-to-one intervention utilizing an Orton-Gillingham program. School-Based Services vs. Private Practice Services The Speech Language Pathologists within the school system generally assesses for articulation or language delays. The School Psychologist can assess to see if there are any characteristics of dyslexia, which basically means that a student isn’t reading on grade level, and will usually be placed in small group for intervention. At Speechology, we can give a formal diagnosis of Dyslexia if a client qualifies, or determine what the underlying cause of the reading deficit is, if not Dyslexia. A plan of care specific to that client and their needs is then created based off of our evaluation. We also provide one-on-one treatment that focuses on phonological awareness, reading, and spelling. For this, we generally use an Orton Gillingham based program that targets both reading and spelling in a systematic, multisensory approach. We also use a program for clients who need a stronger foundation in phonological awareness initially.
